Say Yes to sun protection for children

Say Yes to sun protection for children

The crystalline lens is not fully developed until the age of 12 years, and any damage caused to the eyes by sunlight is cumulative and irreversible, such as: ocular melanomas, ‘eye cancer, which is known to be caused mainly by overexposure to the sun when patients are minors, and other common conditions caused by the effect of the sunlight, such as photokeratitis or cataracts.

‘Most of the injuries caused by sunlight to our eyes are chronic: once they appear, they become permanent and irreversible'

It is essential that sunglasses be bought at opticians, the only place where the relevant health controls are in place for them, thus guaranteeing that the lens provides total protection from UV rays.

Two (2) out of every 3 parents prefer opticians to any other type of establishment to buy sunglasses for their children.
